Orthognathic Surgery

Jaw Surgery to Improve Oral Health and Function

Jaws that are misaligned can cause difficulty with speaking, eating, and even breathing. Orthognathic surgery, also known as jaw surgery, surgically repositions the jaws to improve oral health and function. Patients who undergo corrective jaw surgery typically experience life-changing results.

Dr. Seeger, Dr. Gleason, and Dr. Inverso are board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons who perform orthognathic surgery on patients of all ages. Contact our office in Woodbury Heights and Pennsville, NJ, for a consultation to address your oral health needs.

Benefits of Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery

There are many benefits of orthognathic surgery, such as:

  • Improved chewing function
  • Improved speech
  • Restored facial harmony
  • Relief from chronic facial pain

Reasons for Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery

Corrective jaw surgery may be the recommended treatment to improve quality of life and oral health. If you experience one or more of the following conditions, orthognathic surgery may be right for you. Please contact our office to schedule a consultation and find out your ideal treatment plan.

Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery Procedure

The type of orthognathic surgery recommended for you will depend on your individual condition. When you visit our office for the first time, you will meet with one of our board-certified oral surgeons, who will take 3D scans of your jaws and face, perform a complete oral examination, and create a custom care plan. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your treatment.

Orthodontic treatment is the next step of the orthognathic surgery procedure for many patients. Your orthodontist will use braces to prepare your teeth for surgery. How long this stage takes varies from patient to patient.

Your surgical procedure will begin with the administration of general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, your oral surgeon will access the jaw bones to realign the jaw and use plates or screws to secure them into their new position. Whenever possible, incisions will be made inside the mouth to prevent visible scarring.

Types of Anesthesia

At Westwood Oral Surgery & Dental Implants, we offer several types of anesthesia and sedation options.
